November 5, 2019
METRO sought authority to borrow up to $3.5 billion, repayable by future METRO revenue. It also committed to continue contributing to the General Mobility Program through 2040.

A look back at the history of METRO and a look forward to what could be next.
Without METRO, mobility in the Houston region would look and feel very different.
Beginning in 2017, METRO went on a listening tour. We hosted dozens of community meetings seeking community input for a future transit plan.
By January 2019, after almost two years of community meetings, Houston-area residents had contributed many ideas for what they wanted to see in a plan.
By June 2019, METRO was touting a draft plan for the future. This included 75 miles of Bus Rapid Transit service that would later become known as METRORapid.
Educating the public was key to the plan’s success, so METRO went to the media to make its case and seek even more community feedback.
By August 2019, as more extensive community involvement had taken place, the METRONext Moving Forward Plan was beginning to take shape.

And as we got closer to the referendum, we reminded voters about why we could be trusted as a responsible steward of taxpayer dollars.

In November 2019, the METRONext Moving Forward Plan received overwhelming approval from Houston-area voters.
After the plan was approved, METRO went back on the airwaves to announce it was ready to move forward with the plan. Two TV commercials were produced, including this one.
And this was the second TV commercial announcing our intention to move forward with the voter-approved plan.

The METRONext Business Now event took place in February 2020. It briefed prospective vendors on how to receive consideration for future business opportunities with METRONext projects.
