The above table serves as a snapshot of the typical factors that impact ridership, and illustrates the differences which exist between the current month and the same month in the previous year. If a change occurred, it is categorized to represent a (typically) positive, negative or neutral impact on ridership. More details on the observed impacts are noted in the description of ridership results below.

Local Bus

Monthly Total

There were approximately 4,883K boarding in November 2019 compared to approximately 4,892K in November 2018, a decrease of 8K boardings (or less than 1 percent) on local bus service. A negative calendar mix of one fewer weekday and one more Saturday relative to the previous year contributed to ridership loss.

Average Daily Ridership: Weekday / Saturday / Sunday

Average daily ridership decreased on Weekday yet increased on Saturday and Sunday. Weekday average daily ridership decreased by less than 1K boardings (or less than 1 percent), Saturday average daily ridership increased by 2K boardings (or 2 percent) and Sunday average daily ridership increased by 10K (or 11 percent) in November 2019 compared to November 2018.

​Light Rail

Monthly Total

There were 1,342K boardings on all three light rail lines and 47K boardings on bus bridges in November 2019 compared to 1,483K boardings on all three light rail lines and 4K boardings on bus bridges in November 2018, a decrease of 99 boardings (or 7 percent). Red line ridership decreased by 12 percent, Green line ridership increased by 3 percent, and Purple line ridership increased by 1 percent in November 2019 compared to November 2018. The scheduled shutdowns on all three of the rail lines was the major factor for ridership decrease.

Average Daily Ridership: Weekday / Saturday / Sunday

Average Weekday ridership on the Red, Green, and Purple lines decreased by less than 2K boardings (or 3 percent), increased by less than 1K boardings (or 3 percent) and increased by less than 1K boardings (or 7 percent) respectively in November 2019 compared to November 2018. Average Saturday ridership on Red, Green, and Purple lines decreased by more than 2K boardings (or 10 percent), increased by less than 1K boardings (or 7 percent), and increased by less than 1K boardings (or 4 percent) respectively in November 2019 compared to November 2018. Average Sunday ridership on Red, Green, and Purple lines decreased by less than 1K (or 3 percent), increased by less than 1K boardings (or 9 percent), and increased by less than 1K boardings (or 10 percent) respectively in November 2019 compared to November 2018 respectively.

There were approximately 6,272K boardings in November 2019 compared to 6,379K in November 2018, a decrease of approximately 108K boardings (or 2 percent).

Average Daily Ridership: Weekday / Saturday / Sunday

Average local network decreased on Weekday yet an increase on Saturday and Sunday in November 2019 compared to November 2018.  Average Weekday ridership decreased by 1K boardings (1 percent), average Saturday ridership increased by approximately 1K boardings (or less than 1 percent) and average Sunday ridership increased by 10K boardings (or 9 percent) in November 2019 compared to November 2018.

​Commuter Network Overview

Park & Ride

Monthly Total

There were 599K Park and Ride boardings in November 2019 compared to approximately 568K boardings in November 2018, an increase of 31K boardings (or 6 percent). 

Average Daily Ridership: Weekday

Average Weekday ridership in November 2019 was approximately 31K boardings compared to 28K boardings November 2018, an increase of approximately 3K boardings (or 10 percent).

Entire Network Summary

Monthly Total

There were 6,871K boardings on the entire fixed-route network in November 2019 compared to approximately 6,947K boardings in November 2018, a decrease of 76K boardings (or 1 percent). Relevant factors were noted earlier and are included in the table above.

Average Daily Ridership: Weekday / Saturday / Sunday

Average local network increased on Weekday, Saturday, and Sunday in November 2019 compared to November 2018. Average weekday ridership increased by approximately 2K boardings (or 1 percent), average Saturday ridership increased by approximately 1K boardings (or less than 1 percent) and average Sunday ridership increased by 10K (or 9 percent) in November 2019 compared to November 2018.
