Local Bus

Monthly Total

There were 4,892K boardings in November 2018 compared to 5,096K in November 2017, a decrease of 204K boardings (or 4 percent) on local bus service. There was no change in calendar mix in November 2018 relative to November 2017. However, there was a change in the number of Fridays in November 2018 than there was in November 2017. As ridership is lower on Fridays than on Mondays through Thursdays, a decrease in ridership would be expected with an increase in the number of Fridays.

Average Daily Ridership: Weekday / Saturday / Sunday

Average daily ridership decreased on Weekday, Saturday and Sunday in November 2018 compared to November 2017. Average Weekday ridership decreased by approximately 8K boardings (or 4 percent), average Saturday ridership decreased by approximately 4K boardings (or 3 percent) and average Sunday ridership decreased by 6K (or 6 percent), in November 2018 compared to November 2017.

​Light Rail

Monthly Total

There were 1,483K boardings on all three light rail lines in November 2018 compared to 1,651K boardings in November 2017, a decrease of 167K boardings (or 10 percent). Red line ridership decreased by 10 percent, Green line ridership decreased by 11 percent, and Purple line ridership increased by 7 percent in November 2018 compared to November 2017. The primary factor contributing to the lower year-over-year ridership change was the reduction of one World Series game and the subsequent World Series parade. This parade, held on November 3, 2017, holds the record for the largest single day ridership in METRORail’s history.

Average Daily Ridership: Weekday / Saturday / Sunday

Average Weekday ridership on the Red, Green, and Purple lines decreased by more than 3K boardings (or 6 percent), decreased by less than 1K boardings (or 0 percent) and increased by less than 1K boardings (or 3 percent) respectively in November 2018 compared to November 2017. Average Saturday ridership on Red, Green, and Purple lines decreased by more than 2K boardings (or than 10 percent), decreased by less than 1K boardings (or 3 percent), and decreased by less than 1k boardings or (or 11 percent) respectively in November 2018 compared to November 2017. Average Sunday ridership on Red, Green, and Purple lines decreased by less than 2K (or 9 percent), decreased by less than 1K boardings (or 1 percent), and decreased by less than 1K boardings (or 9 percent) respectively in November 2018 compared to November 2017 respectively.

There were 6,379K boardings in November 2018 compared to 6,747K in November 2017, a decrease of approximately 367K boardings (or 5 percent).

Average local network decreased on Weekday, Saturday and Sunday in November 2018 compared to November 2017. Average Weekday ridership decreased by approximately 11K boardings (or 4 percent), average Saturday ridership decreased by approximately 7K boardings (or 4 percent) and average Sunday ridership decreased by 8K boardings (or 7 percent) in November 2018 compared to November 2017.

Monthly Total

There were approximately 568K Park and Ride boardings in November 2018 compared to approximately 624K boardings in November 2017, a decrease of 56K boardings (or 9 percent).

Average Daily Ridership: Weekday

Average Weekday ridership in November 2018 was approximately 29K boardings compared to 32K boardings November 2017, a decrease of 3K boardings (or 10 percent).

Entire Network Summary

Monthly Total

There were 6,947K boardings on the entire fixed-route network in November 2018 compared to 7,370K boardings in November 2017, a decrease of 424K boardings (or 6 percent). Relevant factors were noted earlier and are included in the table above.

Average Daily Ridership: Weekday / Saturday / Sunday

Average daily ridership for the fixed-route network decreased on Weekday, Saturday and Sunday in November 2018 compared to November 2017. Average weekday ridership decreased by approximately 14K boardings (or 5 percent), average Saturday ridership decreased by approximately 7K boardings (or 4 percent) and average Sunday ridership decreased by 8K (or 7 percent) in November 2018 compared to November 2017.
