​Local Network Overview

Local Bus

Monthly Total

There were approximately 4,926K boarding in September 2019 compared to approximately 4,947K in September 2018, a decrease of 21K boardings (or less than 1 percent) on local bus service. Tropical Storm Imelda brought a substantial amount of rain between Tuesday, September 17 and Thursday, September 19, 2019 including severe flooding in portions of the METRO service area. The impacts of this tropical storm led to a suspension of service for all METRO services on Thursday, September 19, 2019, beginning at approximately 11:00 AM and extending until approximately 5:00 PM (rail) and 7:00 PM (bus).

Average Daily Ridership: Weekday / Saturday / Sunday

Average daily ridership increased on Weekday, Saturday and Sunday. Weekday average daily ridership increased by 4K boardings (or 2 percent), Saturday average daily ridership increased by approximately 6K boardings (or 5 percent) and Sunday average daily ridership increased by approximately 6K (or 6 percent) in September 2019 compared to September 2018.

​Light Rail

Monthly Total

There were 1,517K boardings on all three light rail lines in September 2019 compared to 1,581K boardings in September 2018, a decrease of 64K boardings (or 4 percent). Red line ridership decreased by 5 percent, Green line ridership increased by 2 percent, and Purple line ridership decreased by 3 percent in September 2019 compared to September 2018.  As documented under Local Bus, Tropical Storm Imelda had a negative impact on METRORail ridership during September 2019.

Average Daily Ridership: Weekday / Saturday / Sunday

Average Weekday ridership on the Red, Green, and Purple lines decreased by more than 1K boardings (or 2 percent), increased by less than 1K boardings (or 8 percent) and increased by less than 1K boardings (or 1 percent) respectively in September 2019 compared to September 2018. Average Saturday ridership on Red, Green, and Purple lines decreased by less than 1K boardings (or 1 percent), increased by less than 1K boardings (or 3 percent), and decreased by less than 1K boardings or (or 7 percent) respectively in September 2019 compared to September 2018. Average Sunday ridership on Red, Green, and Purple lines increased by less than 1K (or 1 percent), increased by less than 1K boardings (or 5 percent), and increased by less than 1K boardings (or 9 percent) respectively in September 2019 compared to September 2018 respectively.

There were 6,444K boardings in September 2019 compared to 6,528K in September 2018, a decrease of 84K boardings (or 1 percent).

Average local network increased on Weekday, Saturday and Sunday in September 2019 compared to September 2018. Average Weekday ridership increased by approximately 4K boardings (or 1 percent), average Saturday ridership increased by approximately 5K boardings (or 3 percent) and average Sunday ridership increased by 6K boardings (or 5 percent) in September 2019 compared to September 2018.

Monthly Total

There were 665K Park and Ride boardings in September 2019 compared to 610K boardings in September 2018, an increase of 55K boardings (or 9 percent).

Average Daily Ridership: Weekday

Average Weekday ridership in September 2019 was 35K boardings compared to approximately 33K boardings September 2018, an increase of 2K boardings (or 7 percent).

Entire Network Summary

Monthly Total

There were 7,109K boardings on the entire fixed-route network in September 2019 compared to approximately 7,138K boardings in September 2018, a decrease of approximately 29K boardings (or less than 1 percent). Relevant factors were noted earlier and are included in the table above.

Average Daily Ridership: Weekday / Saturday / Sunday

Average daily ridership for the fixed-route network increased on Weekday, Saturday and Sunday in September 2019 compared to September 2018. Average weekday ridership increased by 6K boardings (or 2 percent), average Saturday ridership increased by approximately 5K boardings (or 3 percent) and average Sunday ridership increased by 6K (or 5 percent) in September 2019 compared to September 2018.
