Local Bus

Monthly Total

There were 4,944K boardings in April 2018 compared to 4,786K in April 2017, an increase of 157K boardings (or 3 percent increase) on local bus service. A favorable calendar mix of one more weekday and one fewer Saturday relative to the previous year contributed to ridership gain.

Average Daily Ridership: Weekday / Saturday / Sunday

Average daily ridership increased on Weekday and Sunday, but decreased on Saturday in April 2018 compared to April 2017. Average Weekday ridership increased by approximately 1K boardings (or 1 percent increase), average Sunday ridership increased by approximately 3K boardings (or 3 percent increase) and average Saturday ridership decreased by approximately 9K (or 7 percent decrease), in April 2018 compared to April 2017. 

​Light Rail

Monthly Total

There were 1,567K boardings on all three light rail lines in April 2018 compared to 1,519K boardings in April 2017, an increase of 48K boardings (or 3 percent). Red line ridership increased by 1 percent, Green line ridership increased by 11 percent, and Purple line ridership increased by 12 percent in April 2018 compared to April 2017.  The primary factor for the ridership increase in April 2018 compared to the previous year was the change in calendar mix, with one more Weekday and one fewer Saturday.

Average Daily Ridership: Weekday / Saturday / Sunday

Average Weekday ridership on the Red, Green, and Purple lines decreased by 1K boardings (or 2 percent), increased by less than 1K boardings (or 10 percent) and increased by less than 1K boardings (or 13 percent) respectively in April 2018 compared to April 2017. Average Saturday ridership on Red line decreased by 3k (or 13 percent) while average Saturday ridership on the Green and Purple lines decreased by less than 1K boardings (or 5 percent) and decreased by less 1K boardings (or 6 percent) respectively in April 2018 compared to April 2017. Average Sunday ridership on Red line increased by less than 1k (or 3 percent) while average Sunday ridership on the Green, and Purple lines increased by less than 1K boardings (or 14 percent), and increased by less than 1K boardings (or 5 percent) in April 2018 compared to April 2017 respectively.

There were 6,510K boardings in April 2018 compared to 6,305K in April 2017, an increase of 205K boardings (or 3 percent increase).

Average local network increased on Weekday and Sunday, and decreased on Saturday in April 2018 compared to April 2017. Average Weekday ridership increased by 1K boardings (or 1 percent increase), average Sunday ridership increased by approximately 4K boardings (or 3 percent increase) and average Saturday ridership decreased by 12K (or 8 percent decrease), in April 2018 compared to April 2017.

There were 668K Park and Ride boardings in April 2018 compared to 640K boardings in April 2017, an increase of approximately 28K boardings (or 4 percent increase).

Average Daily Ridership: Weekday

Average Weekday ridership in April 2018 was 32K boardings compared to 33K boardings April 2017, a decrease of less than 1K boardings (2 percent decrease).

Entire Network Summary

Monthly Total

There were 7,178K boardings on the entire fixed-route network in April 2018 compared to 6,945K boardings in April 2017, an increase of 233K boardings (or 3 percent increase).

Average Daily Ridership: Weekday / Saturday / Sunday

Average daily ridership for the fixed-route network increased on Weekday and Sunday and decreased on Saturday in April 2018 compared to April 2017. Average weekday ridership increased by less than 1K boardings (or less than 1 percent increase) average Sunday ridership increased by approximately 4K boardings (or 3 percent increase) and average Saturday ridership decreased by 12K (or 8 percent decrease) in April 2018 compared to April 2017.
