Local Bus

Monthly Total

There were 4,892K boarding in March 2019 compared to approximately 5,124K in March 2018, a decrease of approximately 232K boardings (or 5 percent) on local bus service. A negative calendar mix of one fewer weekday and one more Sunday relative to the previous year a ridership loss would be expected.

Average Daily Ridership: Weekday / Saturday / Sunday

Average daily ridership decreased on Weekday, Saturday and Sunday. Weekday average daily ridership decreased by approximately 6K boardings (or 3 percent), Saturday average daily ridership decreased by approximately 3K boardings (or 2 percent) and Sunday average daily ridership decreased by approximately 3K (or 3 percent) in March 2019 compared to March 2018.

​Light Rail

Monthly Total

There were 1,875K boardings on all three light rail lines in March 2019 compared to 1,945K boardings in March 2019, a decrease of 69K boardings (or 4 percent). Red line ridership decreased by less than 5 percent, Green line ridership increased by 3 percent, and Purple line ridership increased by 5 percent in March 2019 compared to March 2018. One factor contributing to the decrease was one fewer rodeo concert day March 2019 compared to March 2018. Another factor contributing to the ridership decrease was a negative calendar mix of one fewer weekday and one more Sunday relative to the previous year. 

Average Daily Ridership: Weekday / Saturday / Sunday

Average Weekday ridership on the Red, Green, and Purple lines decreased by less than 1K boardings (or 1 percent), increased by less than 1K boardings (or 9 percent) and increased by less than 1K boardings (or 12 percent) respectively in March 2019 compared to March 2018. Average Saturday ridership on Red, Green, and Purple lines decreased by less than 1K boardings (or less than 1 percent), decreased by less than 1K boardings (or 14 percent), and decreased by less than 1K boardings or (or 6 percent) respectively in March 2019 compared to March 2018.  Average Sunday ridership on Red, Green, and Purple lines decreased by 3K (or 15 percent), decreased by less than 1K boardings (or 9 percent), and decreased by less than 1K boardings (or 8 percent) respectively in March 2019 compared to March 2018 respectively.

There were approximately 6,768K boardings in March 2019 compared to approximately 7,068K in March 2018, a decrease of approximately 301K boardings (or 4 percent).

Average Weekday ridership decreased by approximately 5K boardings (or 2 percent), average Saturday ridership decreased by approximately 4K boardings (or 2 percent) and average Sunday ridership decreased by 6K boardings (or 5 percent) in March 2019 compared to March 2018.

There were approximately 650K Park and Ride boardings in March 2019 compared to approximately 658K boardings in March 2018, a decrease of 8K boardings (or 1 percent). 

Average Daily Ridership: Weekday

Average Weekday ridership in March 2019 was 31K boardings compared to approximately 31K boardings March 2018, a decrease of less than 1K boardings (or less than 1 percent).

Entire Network Summary

Monthly Total

There were 7,417K boardings on the entire fixed-route network in March 2019 compared to approximately 7,727K boardings in March 2018, a decrease of approximately 309K boardings (or 4 percent). Relevant factors were noted earlier and are included in the table above.

Average daily ridership for the fixed-route network decreased on Weekday, Saturday and Sunday in March 2019 compared to March 2018. Average weekday ridership decreased by approximately 5K boardings (or 2 percent), average Saturday ridership decreased by approximately 4K boardings (or 2 percent) and average Sunday ridership decreased by 6K (or 5 percent) in March 2019 compared to March 2018.
