Kickstart Your Career with METRO’s Summer Internship Program

Looking to advance your academic career while gaining valuable real-life work experience? Apply for an intern position at METRO!

Many departments, including, but not limited to, communications, construction management, customer service, and bus operations are looking for interns.

College students will get the chance to meet the METRO Board of Directors, have lunch with Interim President & CEO Tom Jasien, and tour various METRO facilities, while gaining experience in their field.

“This is an awesome opportunity for undergraduate students who are looking to gain experience in the workforce prior to finishing their studies,” said Director of EEO and Employee Relations Ruben Castillo. “METRO offers a wide range of opportunities to students where they can learn and hone their skills in the areas they are pursuing or exploring. "

Many current METRO employees started their careers off as interns.

Jessica Conde, a senior advertising account executive, says her internship at METRO in 2014 helped her gain over a decade of experience that led to her position today.

“My journey with METRO began as an intern in the Office of Small Business. During my internship, I had the incredible opportunity to collaborate with the Marketing Department and shadow the team, gaining hands-on experience in preparing marketing plans for summer campaign initiatives,” said Conde. “I’m grateful for the opportunities METRO has provided, which has further equipped me to take on leadership roles and contribute to strategic organizational growth.”

Jesus Gutierrez, a data specialist in the Planning, Engineering and Construction Department, started his internship in 2023 and shares a similar experience to Conde’s.

“The internship program introduced me to a dynamic work environment. I interned in Strategy but was working hand-in-hand with various departments and navigated the agency’s funding structure,” Gutierrez said. “I am now a full-time employee with Engineering & Capital and love to still collaborate with my previous Strategy colleagues.”

Applicants must currently be enrolled in an accredited educational institution and have successfully completed 24 credit hours. A GPA of 2.7 or higher on a 4.0 scale is required.
