METRO Takes Flight at the Wings Over Houston Airshow!

In October, METRO took to the skies, not with planes, but with community spirit!  As a proud sponsor of the Wings Over Houston Airshow, METRO showcased its commitment to connecting the Houston community with exciting events and experiences.

Thousands of attendees flocked to Ellington Airport to witness breathtaking aerial displays, explore vintage aircraft, and enjoy a day filled with family-friendly fun. METRO was right there alongside them, providing convenient and accessible transportation options.

At the METRO booth, visitors learned about the latest developments in public transportation, including upcoming projects and initiatives. Interactive displays and informative materials highlighted the many ways METRO is working to improve mobility and sustainability throughout the region.

But that's not all! METRO also showcased business opportunities specifically for veteran entrepreneurs. This initiative highlighted METRO's commitment to supporting veterans and fostering their entrepreneurial spirit within the transportation industry.

“As a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a small business expert, I am passionate about assisting veteran-owned businesses in navigating the procurement process at METRO. It is both fun and rewarding to play a role in the growth of these amazing businesses,” said Vincent Vereen, METRO Veteran/Disability Programs Officer.

METRO’s Veteran Owned Business Enterprise (VOBE) Program was created in 2022 to ensure veteran-owned firms have equal access to procurement and contracting opportunities at the agency.

“In its short infancy, the program has already increased participation of veteran and disability-owned enterprises by over 200%,” said Vereen. “Our goal is to continue to increase capacity in each of our specialty areas, including construction, general services, supplies and equipment, architecture and engineering, and professional services.”

METRO also hosted a dedicated booth showcasing business opportunities specifically for veteran entrepreneurs.

Beyond the booths, dedicated Park & Ride services ensured smooth and hassle-free travel to and from the Airshow, reducing traffic congestion and promoting eco-friendly transportation choices.
