METRO joined the vibrant celebration of Dia de los Muertos in Houston's Magnolia Park neighborhood this past October, bringing a unique blend of history and community spirit to the festivities. The annual event, a cherished tradition honoring loved ones who have passed, was filled with colorful altars, lively music, delicious food, and captivating performances.

Adding a touch of nostalgia to the celebration, METRO showcased its beautifully restored 1924 antique bus, a testament to the city's rich transportation history. Attendees had the opportunity to step back in time and explore the vintage vehicle, marveling at its classic design and imagining the stories it could tell.

"Being a part of Dia de los Muertos in Magnolia Park allows METRO to connect with our community in a truly special way," shared Jeanette De Los Santos, METRO senior public engagement representative. "This celebration reminds us of the importance of honoring our past and celebrating the strength we find in each other."

The presence of the antique bus sparked conversations and reminiscing among attendees, creating a unique intergenerational connection. It served as a tangible link between Houston's past and present, showcasing how transportation has evolved while still playing a vital role in bringing people together.

De Los Santos added that embracing the spirit of Dia de los Muertos allows METRO to connect with the community on a deeper level, recognizing the vital role transportation plays in cultural expression and celebration.

"Just like our antique bus brought generations together at this event, METRO strives to be a vehicle for connecting people and cultures throughout Houston," she said. "By supporting vibrant traditions like Dia de los Muertos, we celebrate the rich tapestry that makes our city so dynamic."
