METRO held a special Veterans Day program Thursday, Nov. 9, 2023, to honor employees’ service to our country while celebrating the value of generational diversity in the workplace.
METRO Board Members Bob Fry, Diann Lewter, and METRO President & CEO Tom Lambert were among those attending.
“Veterans are not just employees at METRO; they embody our organization's core values,” said Lambert. “Their unwavering commitment to excellence, their dedication to serving the community, and their unwavering spirit of camaraderie are an inspiration to us all. We are incredibly fortunate to have them as part of our METRO family.”
The program, held via Zoom and led by METRO Manager of Intelligent Transportation Systems Fidelis Agbor, an Army veteran, featured a thought-provoking panel discussion with employees from various departments, who shared their inspiring stories of military service, their experiences navigating the workplace, and the unique perspectives they bring to the table. Panelists included:
- Philip Chung, LRT Operator, Navy, Baby Boomer
- Barry Copeland, Auditor II, Army, Baby Boomer
- Gillian Pugh, Fallbrook Transportation Superintendent, Navy, Generation X
- Antonio Quiroz, Facilities Assets Management & Contract Services Manager, Navy, Generation X
- Emmanuel Gonzalez, Network Support Specialist IV, Navy, Millennial

Panelists underscored the invaluable contributions of veterans, emphasizing their focus on teamwork and collaboration. Speakers also discussed how military experience helps bridge generational gaps, fostering mentorship and reverse mentorship — sharing wisdom with younger colleagues while simultaneously gaining fresh perspectives from the next generation.
Army veteran and METRO Project Manager of Concept Development Kalvin Williams closed the event with a Veterans Day trivia contest where attendees tested their military knowledge.
METRO is proud to honor employees’ service to our country and recognize their invaluable contributions to the Authority.
