Beyhive Takes Over METRORail For Weekend Concert

 

Thousands of Beyonce fans chose METRO as their go-to transportation option during the RENAISSANCE WORLD TOUR on Sept. 23 and 24. Similar to other major events such as the Super Bowl, World Series, Final Four, and Houston Livestock Show and Ride, METRO provided a safe, reliable, and affordable ride for concertgoers.

“First time in Houston, first time riding,” a METRO rider explained upon arriving at the concert. “It was a great experience. Nice and smooth and easy to get from Point A to Point B.”

METRO Assistant Superintendent of Special Events Eddie Espinosa, said preparing and executing transit plans for major events takes a lot of internal and external coordination. “Once we became aware of the event, and where the rail will be impacted, we immediately began conversations with folks at NRG to get data on expected attendance numbers and opening hours for the stadium,” he said.

Coordinated Effort: METRO begins planning for the large crowd months in advance and coordinates among METRO departments and outside agencies.

To ensure a seamless ride for passengers, METRO went above and beyond by extending service hours, adding extra trains, and deploying 30 'Beyhive buses' to handle the increased passenger load. The special event buses traveled along the Red Line, utilizing stops near rail stations.

Rail and Bus Operations, METRO Police, Facilities Maintenance, Customer Service, and many other METRO departments spent hours preparing. Teams worked on-site for both events, only leaving after the platforms were all clear.

Concertgoers were impressed with the level of coordination and efficiency METRO provided, stating they were informed of departure times and arrived at their destination quickly.

“The METRO was working perfectly." explained one fan. "They told everyone the time they were going to leave. They got us here quickly."
