As the governing body of the largest transit provider in the state, Houston METRO's Board of Directors plays a crucial role in ensuring the public transportation system remains a safe, clean, reliable, and accessible mode of travel throughout the region.

METRO’s Board consists of nine members, five of whom are nominated by the city of Houston mayor and approved by Houston City Council. Harris County Commissioner’s Court appoints two members, and the 14 multi-cities in the METRO Service area have two positions on the board. Members’ terms are two years and the maximum they can serve is eight years.

In February, Elizabeth Gonzalez Brock was appointed by Houston Mayor John Whitmire and named Board Chair. She is the first Hispanic woman to lead the agency.
